PARTI

My den Tomlinson

I am sorry to trouble you, but I think that I am

right in saying that I spoke to you about the Prince of

Wales being asked if he would graciously send a message

to the Hong Kong University on the occasion of its

coming of age, and I think that you mentioned it to his

Private Secretary or someone, and said that it could

probably be arranged. I cannot, however, find your

letter, so if I am wrong, I should be very glad if you

would pass the suggestion on to the proper quarter.

The University comes of age on the 15th March, and

as Chancellor i should be most grateful if the Prince

would telegraph out a message to me as Chancellor, so as

to arrive say on the 14th March.

I suggest for the Prince's consideration something

like the following, "I offer to the University of

Hong

Kong, of which I have the privilege of being an Honorary

G. J. F. Tomlinson, Esq., C.B.E.,

Colonial Office.
